Why the HHR won a SEMA award and vendor list

<img src="https://www.chevyhhr.net/news/semahhr1.jpg" align="left" border="0" hspace="5" vspace="2">Accessory-Friendly SUV: 2006 Chevrolet HHR
The latest in the retro-look automotive genre, the Chevrolet HHR takes its styling cues from the 1949 Chevy Suburban and the more recent SSR roadster/pickup. This compact newcomer to the Chevy fleet incorporates the company’s Ecotec-based powerplants, innovative interior appointments and reasonable pricing as it enters the market.

The HHR shows its 1949 Suburban heritage as well as cues from the Chevy SSR pickup/roadster.

“HHR is one of the rare vehicles that can be all things to a wide variety of customers,” said Lori Queen, GM vehicle line executive for small car. “With its combination of style and function, the HHR gives those seeking an affordable, non-traditional vehicle an enthusiastic reason to visit their Chevy dealer.”

The five-passenger HHR provides a number of effective storage compartments and can be configured to haul a substantial cargo load. The rear seats fold flat, of course, but so does the front passenger seat, allowing items such as an eight-foot ladder to be stowed inside with the lift gate closed.

The compact SUV is available in a base LS trim level (MSRP of $15,990) and two upper trims, the 1LT and 2LT. The top trim carries an MSRP of $18,790, and all models are fitted with air conditioning, power windows and door locks and remote keyless entry. Also standard is a six-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo that includes an auxiliary input jack for iPods or other audio sources. The base wheels are 16-inchers—said to be the largest in the class—and 17-inch wheels are optional.

The LS and 1LT models are powered by the 2.2L Ecotec inline four-cylinder engine, which puts out 143 horsepower, and the 2LT is equipped with the 172hp 2.4L Ecotec. Transmission choices include a standard five-speed manual and an optional four-speed automatic, and the independent suspension consists of front struts with a stabilizer bar and a rear torsion beam with stabilizer bar.

Why the Chevrolet HHR?

Darrin Olsen, Manager Technical Services, Senior Product Specialist, EGR, Inc.: “The HHR is a unique-looking vehicle in today’s marketplace. Comparable to the PT Cruiser for accessorizing, it lends itself to an endless array of possible iterations for individual personalization. It screams ‘accessorize me and make one of a kind!’”

David M. Gordon, Western Region Sales Manager, Hamsar Diversco, Inc.: “This all-new retro-look multi-use vehicle lends itself to many different styling directions, and it is affordable to the masses in the stripped-down version. The aftermarket will have a heyday with this truck/SUV, and the die-hard GM fans now have their own little HHR ‘Cruiser’ to trick out.”

Brad Grissom, V.P., Marketing/Product Development, Ingalls Engineering Co., Inc.: “The HHR is clearly a lifestyle vehicle and will be marketed to the emerging youth market and enjoy a strong enthusiast following. GM Performance will certainly tap into the aftermarket performance segment, as will many tuners and aftermarket companies.”

Larry Weiner, President, Performance West Group, Inc.: “The new Chevrolet HHR is a vehicle that begs to be personalized. It will easily respond to a wide range of accessories that cover the entire spectrum. This includes body kits, woody packages, upgraded interiors, audio/video entertainment systems, custom wheel and tire packages, engine and powertrain upgrades, suspension kits…it’s just limitless. And with the appeal for the HHR to the baby-boomer generation—to say nothing of the millions of Chevy enthusiasts—this vehicle has success written all over it.”

Gregory Smith, Director of Marketing, Weld Racing: “It is my choice because of its accessible price, retro styling, solid chassis, room for large wheels and tires and proven Ecotec engine.”

Dual-stage frontal air bags come standard and differentiate between adults and small children or child seats to adjust air-bag deployment.
The rear seats fold flat to provide a cargo platform, and the front passenger seat also folds to provide more than eight feet of interior storage length.
The three HHR trim levels are powered by the Ecotec 2.2L and 2.4L engines. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, and a four-speed automatic is optional.

The HHR did scream to me when I seen it on the lot back in august. I never heard of it or seen any preview pictures before seeing it. It was a fun experience.
