09 ls panel timing chain tensioner

Can somebody please help me. On a 09 hhr 2.2 can I just replace the timing tensioner or so I have to replace the balance shaft tensioner as well. I've heard different answers. Or do I need to replace other things as well. Just doing some preventative maintenance. Thank you in advance.

Hi Spike, to the forums!!

Replacing only the tensioner won't do you any good. The entire timing set should be replaced.

Replacing the balance chain set is probably optional, but strongly recommended. The water pump is also in there, and could be replaced.

Thanks, I've heard that it's a new style tensioner and should be replaced from the old style. But not sure about the years it falls under.

Waste of resources as preventative maintenance.

VVT engines have the "new" tensioner from the factory.
