Change Map Light Bulbs

Does anyone know how to change out the bulbs in the rear view mirror?

They're surface mount led's if you have an 08. You'd have to take the mirror apart to replace them.

Yes mine is an 08! Wondering how the mirror comes apart? Also in checking a bulb chart it said an "08" used 194 Bulbs? LED's?

Not a very good picture, but there is a tiny surface mount in there. I think it's soldered on, not a socket. Definitely not a 194.

Did you dig out the Light Lens just for that Pic? If so it is Greatly Appreciated! I guess with the lack of replies the yellow colored led's just doesn't bother many! It bothers me! Maybe I'll check with the dealer on a price to purchase one and maybe disect it?

I'm still hoping for someone to reply with some type of help? I really can't believe that not one HHR owner has attempted this mod already! Maybe an "07" mirror might have bulbs that woud be an easier change out! Mine does have all the bells and whistles which might make the job more difficult! Also if I attempt this and do take pic's I might need to recruit yourself or even Chevy SS to be my photographer as picture taking is not my strong suit!

I did that a while ago, I wanted to put blue lights in. I don't remember how much a replacement was. chevymgr may be willing to get you the dealer prices. An 06 or 07 mirror would probably be the easiest way like you said, but I honestly forgot about it until you started this thread.

I've changed these lights out in all 3 of my 07, 08, 09 HHRs

All I did was go in through the lens port and with a pair of padded small Jewelers needle nose pliers pull out the old bulb and put in the new one of the same size but LED. Just take the mirror off of the mount pedestal pop open the lens and pull out the light. They do add glue to the light to hold them down so you're going to need to slowly work it out. The only problem I have come across in doing this is occasionally the light rattles from vibration and causes it to blink slightly. If it begins doing this open it up clean the terminals and replace the bulb back in the socket. And for everyone who's asking no it's not an easy standard size LED bulb. These things look like the lead mechanical pencil tips that you used to get in the '80s and would pull out the tip and put it in the rear end of the pencil. They are that small.
