Seems like car manufacturers just try to make what should be an easy repair/replacement, harder.
1st time is hardest.. And if you wipe the rubber grommets with a dab of hi-temp grease, next time will be super easy.

Thanks! It took me longer to find my Torx screw driver (left over from when I had a 84 Caddy, 20 years ago) then it took to change the filter.

In case anyone needs to replace the grommets/insulators, here is a quote from Waldo posted just the other day:

"I just did the solenoid replacement, and also had the front grommet fall apart on me. GM calls this part an "Insulator". It's part #12563914, and it's current list is $3.47."

maf sensor question

I'm gonna try the same thing lunchbox did with the air cleaner assembly. My question is does the maf sensor need to go all the way across the intake pipe and is the distance of the maf sensor from the throttle body cruicial?

It does not go all the way across on the OE.
I don't think distance is critical, it just needs to be in the air flow before the butterfly.
Orientation is critical.

what's with the whining? Took me 10 minutes to remove the housing, undo the bolts replace the filter and re-install the whole mess - if those who indicated hours are serious perhaps they shouldn't work on their own cars ...

so how often should the air filter be replaced? I'm in a no dust, damp and rainy climate. The manual says 50,000 miles, but that seems like too long a time.
