Ok...this is going to be a stupid question, but what exactly do you use microfiber towels for? Drying the car after washing it? Rubbing the wax off? Or both?

My dad just uses old towels, and obviously all of our cars have swirl marks on the from it... Since the HHR doesn't have any marks on it, I'd like to start using something different. I've tried a shammoi, but I don't really like them....they stink.

i use them for washing and rubbing wax off. they are not very good for drying personally. a good shammy does it quite well. buy a really leather shammy. a little pricey but they dont suck butt like the fake ones do.

In my exp with Claybaring a car is if you do not feel resistance, and feels butter smooth but still sees contamination or stains, then it has gone deeper then the surface. You should then take it to a qualified detailer to see if anything can be done. If not then start looking for quotes on a paint job.

Just make sure that they are a 80/20 blend. This is best blend of material. Cheap ones usually don't have this specific blend.

I spent 3 hours on my Blackie yesterday getting him ready for our San Diego g2g: washed, clayed, waxed.
The shine is gorgeous even if I do say so myself!

As for the roof, a pita for me as I'm only 5'1" (and have a sunroof and rails), but just used the old step-stool and did it in 4 sections.

My Blackie will be a *close* second in shine to Todd's UMA at the show.

I also added gold metalflake pinstriping at the same time, the combination is perfect.

I had to clay bar my 442 also, that turned out OK, too.
