Cleaning "behind" the headlight lenses

Dirt/dust has gotten behind the left front headlight lens on my "2007" HHR. How do you get access to the inside ,to clean this ....Don't know how it was able to get there in the 1st place. But the right-side is clear.. Just thought maybe I could get some input on how to get to it,and is this a common problem? Thank you in advance..

The only way to get behind is to seperate the lense from the housing.

Positive it's not buildup on the outside of the lens?

Hmmm. Maybe that little gasket is missing where the bulb socket attaches. Or you have a crack in the housing somewhere.
Only way to clean out the inside would be to remove the headlight assembly rinse/wash it out,dry and replace.
Not sure if rinsing it will do any harm to the interior reflective parts.

Happens all the time on newer Harleys with composite headlamps..

I just wash w/ a lil warm dishsoap & rinse thoroughly, & of course dry well.... Never had any problems.
And headlight is back to new clarity..
