Consensus on when to change the oil

Hello, everyone,

What is the consensus on when to change the oil? I have a 2010 SS with 82K on it. I know that keeping up on the oil changes is a good way to keep the engine lasting longer. What do you think about changing it every 3000 miles? And I assume that Mobil 1 synthetic is the way to go? Finally, someone has mentioned in the past dumping a bottle of Seafoam in the tank at every oil change to clean the valves. What is your opinion on this? Thanks for the info!

The HHR has an oli(oil life indicator) that is on the DIC(DriverInformationCenter). Check your owner manual if you don't know how to scroll through the options.

I change around 20%.

Seafoam in the fuel tank might(probably not) help keep the injectors clean, but will do nothing for the valves.

public opinion boils down to two postulates:
1. You cannot save on oil and gasoline, use the highest quality product that you can only afford. Avoid counterfeiting and extend this axiom not only to liquids, but to filters and everything else that is relevant;
2. do not trust the manufacturer, divide the oil change period declared by the manufacturer in half - you will get the extreme limit, which cannot be crossed. If the manufacturer writes 10,000 miles, that means the limit is 5,000 miles. And if you live in a city, reduce it by another 20 - 25%.

In light of what has been said, I approve of 3000 miles.

There is no consensus!!!!!!!!
The Owner Manual says to change it when the Oil Life Monitor tells you to or once a year,

It is so contentious that we close threads about it. Use the search tool to find the thousands of opinions.
