Coolant change concerns

First off, Hello, I am new to your forum & to the HHR. I recently bought an 2007 LT1 for my son. The car has 100K on the clock. I don't know when the coolant was charged, if at all. The manual has all kinds of warnings about "take it to the dealer for coolant change". I am a pretty handy guy with access to most tools. What is the concerns with changing the coolant? I have been through the majority of the treads and used the advanced search, but I don't see anything that speaks to any specific "gotcha moments".

9 years & 100K, how does it look? Have to tested it? It's not a hard job to do and cheap piece of mind.

Welcome!

The reason to take it to a dealer is that they should have a machine that does a complete flush and refill. Many don't really use it.

If you do it yourself you may end up with an air bubble in the system. Not a big deal.

The Service Manual say "Don't use chemical flushing agents".

Replace the t-stat and use 50/50 Dexcool only.

Welcome to the site.

Coolant life is 5 years, 150k miles. Whichever occurs 1st. If you don't know, then best to change it since the car is near 9 years old.

Welcome to the site, change the Dexcool and the thermostat! And get the AC Delco Thermostat, not the cheap code throwing under $20.00 off shore brands!
