dash lights too dim

when I turn the auto headlights off the radio and the DIC lights brighten quite a bit, but the dash lights are very dim if on at all, the speedometer and the dash land almost impossible to see in daylight because of the shadows. there is a small bump on the dash by the front glass, does this control the dash lights? and can I brighten them with out alot of work? thanks

"there is a small bump on the dash by the front glass, does this control the dash lights?"

No, that is the eye that turns the head lights on or off according to outside lighting conditions..

Have you turned the pinwheel on the dash ?

The bump/dome is the ambient light sensor, that controls the activation of the "Auto Lights" function in low light situations. When you select "Off" you are also turning off the dash lights which causes the DIC and radio displays to default to full brightness.

If you wish to keep the dash lights on, use the automatic function, or turn the headlights on manually. If you have the dimmer control on the dash turned all the way to the right, that's all the brightness you will get.

The dash lights also illuminate when you manually turn on the parking lights, but it is illegal in most states to drive with only the parking lamps illuminated.

Red face dim dash lights

We too have the same problem as when it is bright outside it is almost impossible to see the speedo,or gauges. The DIC is always bright? Night time, all is OK. Even with the lights on manual on it is impossible to see the stuff in the daytime.

Say what ? What about older hhrs, their DRL is the parking lights (ONLY)..

Not to mention older cars in general.

My mother got a ticket in S.C. in 1963 for driving with her parking lights on in the rain. The cop said "they are called PARKING lights not DRIVING lights".

Just sayin'.

Just to make sure, are you aware of the slider on the dash that controls the brightness level of the dash (radio and gauges)? If not, it is located within the red circle:

I know some people don't really notice that button all too often as it isn't of great importance. I rarely touch the thing.
