Don't think it's just a stone chip!

As I've mentioned in the What did you do with your HHR today thread, I had been touching up stone chips and discovered some pretty nasty rust lurking inside the rear fenders, here are some shots of the repairs and the finished product. I had the bumpers resprayed too.
This has sure perked me up , I'm looking forward to this Sunday, the Last Chance show here in Welland, gates open at 8am for registration!
Maybe see some of you there!!

Thanks, I'll relay the kudos on to Len.
Here's the pieces cut out of the quarter panels

Yup.... That'd be rust.

Was it bubbling through yet, or found while grinding?

Great repair.

hey old blue just got back in the game and a 2007 LT with the 2.4 112000 brunt orange.. got the same problem just wondering it’s better to cut the rust out or grind it down and use fiberglass? I’m going to have a body shop do it .. the car runs like a dream so had to buy ..just wondering how to prevent it again ? And why do they rust in that area ?

Welcome back hurst2001- Not oldblue (obviously) , but I'll throw in my .02 fwiw, if you plan on keeping the ride, do it right & replace the bad metal. You will be much happier.
Grinding down the rust & glassing it in is only a temp fix, the problem will re-appear in the future.
