first HHR oil change

well took the HHR in today for its first service 3864 miles. Went with the Mobil 1 Cost me 41 dollars with the GM service coupon I received. Figure ill go about 8000 miles on it. Seems a bit smoother but to me it was pretty smooth already. We shall see how it goes.

I too use Mobil 1, but I buy the oil at Wal Mart, or ???? and take it to the dealer to service. Much more cost effective.

Mines had M1 since the first change.

BTW, changing the oil on an HHR is extremely simple.

agreed. i cannot imagine an easier car to change the oil on. i just did my first oil change on the HHR about a week ago. super easy. used Mobil1 and a Wix oil filter. i also added a quick oil drain valve. the longest part was waiting for the oil to drain.

Yes it is very simple. Even a desk jockey like me can do it

Unfortunately the landlord recently sent out notices that no auto repairs of any kind are to be performed on their property. Same thing happened to the inlaws, so I have to go back to having someone else do it.

Do it on the side, or in back of the auto parts parking lot if you need to..

But for those that haven't done it yet, do get the 32mm (special) oil cap socket before you drain the oil...

Adv Auto & has them.. Try it before you buy.. It's a shorty & 3/8" drive..
FWIW: They also carry AC Delco oil filters & O-ring (like it comes with), for $4.99

I use M1 too & have added a (rare-earth) Magnetic drain plug as well..

PS: if you haven't already read it.. Before you remove the drain plug, do remove the fill cap first, to allow air in to get a better drain..

Like the guy said earlier, remove the oil fill cap and it will drain faster. However, I have found that it is best to remove the oil drain plug, then the oil fill cap. It helps slow the flow of the oil out of the vehicle and down your arm. Removing the oil fill cap first is a guarantee to make it a messier oil change...

Walmart has Mobil 1 on sale for $21 for 5 quart jug here. O'Rielly has 32 mm socket for $9. I have always changed my own oil since high school. My HHR is the 1st one I couldn't drive up on ramps. I had to dig out a couple 2 x 8's to drive up on so I could squeeze my fat butt (upper torso) under the front end. Oil change is fast and easy. Bear
