Front brake question

I have SS front brakes, not the Brembo's. I've changed pads a few times since swapping the brakes out etc. but am not sure I'm installing the pads oriented properly.

Where does the Wear Indicator thingie go? Inside or outside of the wheel? Pointing to the front or back of car?

Thanks in advance. Sorry, probably a stupid question... but I changed rotors and pads over the weekend and am having some new noises... a grinding while in reverse... The only thing I can think of is that wear indicator thingie (which I may just rip off)

If I remember correctly, mine were the inside pad on the bottom tab. Though for the most part, probably doesn't matter.

That is correct. Inner pads normally wear faster, and the lower end will screech louder.

On new pads the indicator should not be touching by a quarter inch, so I don't think that is the source. Maybe hubs. Maybe the pads are not seated in the slots right.

Thanks. I don't really think that was the source either, but was the only thing I could think of, as I was never exactly sure how they went in.

Not hubs, both are new this year. And the noise started immediately after installing brand new rotors and pads. No noise on Saturday, except vibration while braking (at least one rotor was warped) - did work Sunday, and immediately noise started.

I took everything apart last night and took a good look at it. I reversed the inner pad - swapped them side for side - to experiment with that wear indicator thingie - even though from what I could see if wasn't hitting anything.

It is a lot better today, but you might be right. Maybe one of the pads wasn't in seated correctly and I fixed that last night.

Thanks for the help!

I have left the wire I used to hold the caliper up on the spring before.

Check the stainless steel sliders mine have slide in the caliper bracket and touched the rotors causing a squeal when turning left and right. Check the tabs are adjusted correctly

That's the ticket! Some that come with pads don't fit.

I've been trying all day to remember what I did when I had that prob.

I held the rotor in place with three lug nuts, bolted on the caliper brackets and used a slot screwdriver to hold the clips and closed the gap on the tabs.
A general picture of the sliders

The clips that got me were just too big, like they were made for much thinner rotors.
