My HHR was experiencing the dreaded front end thumps and rattles when I first bought it. First I changed the sway bar links, because that was the issue with my first HHR. That got rid if about half.. I inspected the lower control arm bushings and sway bar bushings and they were all tight. I then thought probably the Strut bearings may be bad, so I changed my struts. All the heavy thumping was gone then but I still had that persistent rattle over bumps. I decided to live with it. Then about a week ago coming down the mountain an awful grinding and vibration started in the left front. As soon as the brakes cooled it went away. I had my brakes checked and was told the rotor on the left side had cracks in it. So I had new rotors and pads installed. Believe it or not now the persistent rattle is gone. Could I have had a loose caliper causing the rattle? I don’t know but I am glad the rattles and thumps are completely gone now.

We have been every day.... even before we fixed the rattles and clunks we were driving it quite a bit. March 30 we bought it with 122,500 miles on it, today it turned over 129,700.
