HHR smells of gas at times

Hi I am new to the forum and need some advice. My HHR is running fine but smells of gas at times now. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?

Probably the EVAP vent valve back under the gas tank. But could be other dangerous things! Please have it checked out, gas fumes can be explosive.

Welcome to the site.

Good advice from donbrew.

I also recall a thread a few months back of someone with a rusted/corroded, leaking fuel line in the rear of the car.
Best bet is to inspect the entire fuel system.

When does it smell of gas? If that happens only on cold morning start ups in a confined area like a garage, that's normal. We discussed that a while back.

I love bumping old threads.
So i guess it depends a little on whether you're smelling new gas or old.
In my case filled up the other day and must've over filled a little as im now getting a smell of old stale gas which leads me to believe its my overflow vent valve as was mentioned back when the thread was on topic lol. That piece of info was very helpful for me, thank you.

My gas smell turned out to be the vent lines on top of the fuel tank.
The smell is only present for the first 1/8 tank, then P0442.
Still searching for a solution but it ma be a new tank.

If you think the leak is in the vent line, why would you replace the tank and not just fix the vent line?

The location is where the vent line attaches to the tank.
I would really like to seal that area, BUT,
I haven't found a glue or sealant that will adhere to the tank plastic.
