Is this the light that shines on the window switches on the center console (2006-2008)?

But, it is NOT a SS. There should be a badge on the lift gate, either LS or LT that is the model they are different cars only the bodies are similar. It will appear on the label on the glovebox door (LS,LT,2LT,SS) and the 5th and 6th digits in the VIN indicate the model; AA for LS, AB for LT, AC for 2LT, AD for SS assuming yours is an automatic transmission (different second letter for 5 speed).. The 8th digit is the engine M for LNF 2.0L(SS), B for LE8 2.2L, V for LE9 2.4L. The 10th digit is model year for a 2010 is A.

Here is a 2010 HHR SS interior picture. Note the sunroof controls and map lights. (ALL 2010 SS's had the same sunroof and the RPD unit on the center dash)

What is the 10th digit of the VIN? Is there a turbo charger? Do the bumper covers have bumps on them? Is there a SS on the trunk lid?

OK. Here’s the deal. Some 2008 SS’s (maybe all 2008) had that old style sunroof control pictured above. That control had that little “mood” light in it. That little light was to illuminate the window switches on the HHR’s that had them in the center console.
Since all SS’s have window switches in the doors, I bet that “ mood” light hadn’t been eliminated yet on the early 08 SS.
Not sure but GM may have left it unpowered on the SS since it wasn’t needed.
Omnigear. Did yours ever work before ?
