My key fob issues fixed
A while ago I started having intermittent problems with my remote. Sometimes it wouldn't lock and sometimes wouldn't remote start. My other remote didn't work either.
It then wouldn't work at all and the alarm would randomly go off when I walked away from the HHR. There was no consistency to the problem, then yesterday I started getting the low battery alert on my DIC. I just replaced my batteries within the last 18 months, so I knew something was up.
I just pulled the remote apart and the entire battery hold down was broken off. I had to re-solder it and now all is good. When it was floating around in there is was randomly hitting other contacts on the board and that's what was making things go haywire. That must have also been the reason the other remote didn't work, because this one was still sending messed up signals to the BCM.
I was almost ready to take it to the dealer, before I found this. Anyway, both remotes seem to work fine now (although I just realized that I haven't tried the remote starter yet), so if you're having weird problems yourselves this might be one thing to check out.

When I first got my car, the keyfobs wouldn't work at all. I took them apart and used a knife to gently short the contacts out and the doors locked and unlocked just fine. I ordered two new cases and the rubber pads and put the electronics from the original keyfobs in the new cases. I paid something like $2 or $3 on ebay for brand new cases. They now work perfectly and they look brand new to boot. I wonder how many car owners go to the dealership to replace the keyfobs when the only thing wrong with them is that the contacts on the rubber pads wear out.
My fob's stopped working too

Found these and problem solved. I can fix almost any remote now too, had several contacts included. The replacement rubber button mentioned above is a good solution it looks like.
Test your fob contacts by using one of the functional rubber buttons, like the panic, rarely used.
