Right, I forgot that part. I wonder if our alternators will recharge the AGM battery? You are not supposed to use a battery charger unless it’s designed for them, so are the alternators different ?
I've never had a problem. Installed January 2015. I did replace it recently in my desperate attempt to get ready for a smog test, but everything I replaced, with the exception of the Catalytic converter, was a waste. So the battery is still good.
The acid is a gel, the cells are encased in bags, the charger thing is about overcharging causing an ex[plosion. They don't outgas so overcharging causes high pressure and the capsules explode. Alternators don't overcharge, no problem.
Venting would be the least of my concerns. I would not use an AGM battery in an HHR unless GM specifically said it’s OK, due to the risk of explosion, which would be bad enough under the hood, but much worse inside the passenger compartment. I have no idea if the charging system was designed with AGM batteries in mind.
I've been using AGM batteries in all of my cars for the past 25 years.
My HHR SS has had one for as long as I can remember.
Moreover, an AGM battery is a type of lead-acid battery that uses a glass-fiber mat to absorb and immobilize the electrolyte. AGM batteries are sealed and do not require maintenance. They are often used in applications where a high degree of vibration or other environmental abuse is encountered.

What’s The Difference Between An Agm And A Regular Car Battery?
The main difference between an AGM battery and a regular car battery is that AGM batteries are sealed and can be mounted in any position, whereas regular car batteries must be mounted in a specific position and must be vented. AGM batteries also have a longer lifespan than regular car batteries. What Are The Benefits Of Using An AGM Battery In A Car?
The benefits of using an AGM battery in a car are:- They are maintenance-free, meaning you don’t have to worry about adding water or checking the acid levels.
- AGM batteries are less likely to leak than traditional lead acid batteries.
- They are less likely to suffer from corrosion.
- They have a longer lifespan than traditional lead acid batteries.
- They are more resistant to vibration and shocks.
What Is An Agm Car Battery?
An AGM battery is a type of vehicle battery that uses Absorbent Glass Mat technology. This technology allows the battery to hold more power than a standard lead-acid battery, and it also makes the battery more resistant to damage from vibration. AGM batteries are often used in vehicles that require a high level of electrical power, such as boats, RVs, and trucks. Moreover, an AGM battery is a type of lead-acid battery that uses a glass-fiber mat to absorb and immobilize the electrolyte. Yeah, it’s prolly fine. I just have no need for it. If I did, I would want to make sure the maximum charging rate is acceptable for the battery, though. My guess is it’s fine because the battery management system is so gentle on the battery.
