The DIC bases oil changes on your driving habits. 80% of my driving is hwy. If I followed the DIC, I could actually put close to 16,000 miles between oil changes. I use AMSOIL 0W-30 and change it every 10, 000 miles and change the oil filter every 5,000 miles.

AMSOIL 0W-30 and a NAPA gold filter. Change filter every 5,000 miles and oil every 20,000 miles.

Another vote for Mobil 1 5W30. Have used that almost since it came out in the late 70's in every car I have owned and have never had a lubrication related problem.

Why are people so afraid of change? Old scholl oil intervals are....old school. Do you really think a major car builder/manufacturer or oil producer would recommend an extended oil change if it weren't safe? . So it must be true then, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Ive run 26,000 on one oil change..generally run 8 to 12 k on my non DIC vehicles..based on oil color , smell, time and milages.Guess what, no problems.........
I think what most are comparing to are the owners that never change the oil(dino oil ) and the motor gets sludged up, dino oil needs a different chg routine, but will stilll handle up to 8 k depending upon usage.(or abuse).
Ive had vehicles that burned oil that the added oil constituted the oil change interval, just made sure the filter was changed often eoungh and those vehicles lasted quite a long time despite the know oil usage. Just follow the auto/oil manufacturers advice and don't worry about what you used to know,......Ozzie and Harriet passed away along time ago....
