You for got the WILL ROBINSON part... (Danger Will Robinson. Lost in Space...Aaah, forget the joke-just showing age)

Anyway I change it at about 45% (usually 5,000 miles-but half of that is all highway with no traffic) and change it at the same time in my wife's Cobalt. Her percentage is usually the same but she does less miles and normally stop & go local with the kids & work nearby.

Dang, i gotta change oil AGAIN?

LOL Like I posted a few weeks ago I do my oil changes each time a new thread is opened by someone asking when to change oil. So now I gotta dump my three week old oil and do another oil change. Dang, maybe I will start going by the % indicator.

Thats one problem with buying a used car ... you never really know the true oil change history of the vehicle, how often it was changed and what kind of oil they used. I know a lot of oil change places up here will give you a stamp in your little book with out actually changing the oil.

Regardless, on most of my vehicles I change my oil every 8-10000kms as per the owners manual, usually 8000kms in the winter months when its quite cold up here but 10000kms during the rest of the year.

The HHR is the first vehicle I've owned that has an OLM and personally I'd rather go by experience and change the oil on a regular schedule as with cars passed and see how well the OLM performs during that time.

My Golf has always used synthetic oil as per manufacturer recommendation, but at $100 per oil change (compared to about $40 for regular oil) thats pretty steep. The HHR is still a good 8000kms away from her first oil change and the first one is free from the dealership and I doubt they'll be using synthetic, but we'll see I guess.

that is not true if you buy a car from me. i have receipts for every tank of gas, on which i write the mileage at the fill up. i also have receipts for every bottle of oil and every oil filter. on which, i write the mileage at the oil change.

i keep the receipts and instructions for everything needed for my car. i have documents for my cost of ownership down to the penny.

i can do a mobil 1 oil change with a wix filter for 30.20 including tax.

no. i was just pointing out that some people have complete service records. i enjoy doing it. the day a gas station cannot give me a receipt will probably make my head explode, though.
