MIGHT have been me. I mentioned, when I worked at the GM Desert Proving Ground, the protocol for all GM durability test vehicles was a half hour drain when doing an oil change.

"woody"......amazing isn't it. Not one person can attribute, with an significance, one engine failure due specifically to oil failure. While I do believe, for certain applications, synthetic oil has some benefits, no one can specifically provide reliable documentation to support the use of it (other than those applications hinted at). Same position on the various brands of synthetics. Not one can show reliable info, on a PROVEN "real life" test application, that any brand is better than the other.

 

It was a "think about it" thing....[I] feel if youre going to use the "traditional" oil change intervals stick with the oils that call for it....anything else is a waste..the 50/60/s era is over and modern technology has pretty much leveled the field. Oil analysis can tell the diff betwen oils but your motor really can't( here comes the "wrong" stories)..the differences are so small as not to really matter for "The Normal Daily Driver" group.....now of course everybody here thinks themselves a hot rodder but realistically..a couple of external bolt on parts does not create a hot rod...and flashing the 'puter is hardly turning wrenches.Driving to work everyday while buzzing it up BELOW max power limits on occasion is hardly loading it up considering it was built to do just those things..so why use an oil that can go 15k easily but is only used for 1/3 life?. In an otherwise untouched motor( internally where all the oil actually is). S'plain Lucy!Insurance? against what?Peace of mind? What about the thousands of other car owners who don't even know oil is in there and have trouble free drivers? They dont have any problems or care..you don't see their cars aong side the road with rods hanging out the oil pan....most alll breakdowns nowadays are expendable parts..except for transmissions....expendable meaning waterpumps, alternators..accessories, belt driven parts..external parts.Not oil covered internal parts.One can absolutly do no wrong with following the manufactuers suggestions...(NOT the dealers)now if your running dino and want to do syn..by all means do it...just the heat properties ALONE make it worth it, which is MY main reason for its use.And of course the hassel of getting your oil changed more frequently with Dino too. Cost wise its about the same anymore except for the labour.People complain about syn cost, $4-8 but forget it last 3 times as long.......AMEN
Besides, most you owners will not own your car long enough to reap the benefits of longevity..admit it, your just paying alot more to make a prize find for somebody else.

 

wow realley your that upset that some of us think its cheap insurance to change our oil every 5000 miles even with synthtic oil lol.thats about like me calling everyone stupid for thier opion on running thier car 10000 miles on n oil change. wow guy get a grip its just peoples opions.hell if it comes to gettin put down n a ass chewing to voice your opion i better find another helpfull sit besides this one .sorry for the inconveince your opions must be the only ones that matter lmao. if i need to know anything else i guess il just chut my mouth n look at your opion since its the only one that matters wow nothen like getten mad about someones preferance on his oil n when to change it.you have a goodday lmao.
