Oil filter dissection - VERY interesting

Found this on another board. While we use cartridges, it still shows manufacturing quality.

I myself was shocked at the lack of quality with Fram filters. I have used them for years and am rethinking using them in the future.

I only use AC Delco oil filters. They are some of the best on the market.

Yeah, my dad uses Parts Master brand on my mom's G6. Each one comes out looking kinda squeezed...not as bad as the one Brad posted.

I always us AC Delco, but I've had some made in other countries, and some made in USA...

I have been using the K&N HP-7000 in my 2.4 HHR. They are rather expensive, but when changing the filter it looks as it did the day I put it in. Not crushed like some of the filters I have seen on many different threads. Also comes with the cap seal ring. The saying goes you get what you pay for. Full synthetic oil goes without saying...O.C. I use fram oil filters in fact just put on in Tuesday and the one we replaced didnt look to bad. It looked used but nothing like the picture above, not even close, and it was about 10k miles between changes. The Fram also comes with cap seal ring I have replaced that with every oil change.

Just to clarify, that's not a Fram filter in the pic. The only writing on that filter was "Made In China" and the customer had it put on by an independent shop, that was not a national retail chain.

Fram..this is how they used to claim "more horsepower" using their filters...the filter media was larger ( re:less filtering but more flow) thus allowing the oil pump to work less thereby the parasidic hp loss was less......on a Race car this would be ok as they change oil every week...on a DD car? No way.. too much dirt being passed thru unchecked...race cars don't have the oil in them long enough to get dirty......
