Question Repairs On My HHR Questions

Hello, there have been some issues that have been recently occurring with my 2010 Chevrolet HHR LS that just turned 127,090 miles and I will list them below.

-Steering wheel squeaks when turning
-When stepping on the brakes, the steering wheel shakes and there is front end clunking/rattling noises and brakes noises coming from the front and rear brakes
-When going over bumps, the rear end of the car kind of sways side to side
-When I have the air conditioning on, it seems like it sometimes doesn't blow enough cold air
-On driver's side door on the power window switches, when I go to use the switch to roll down the passenger side front door, it does not work

Any thoughts on what might be going on? Thank you.

Well. You didn't come back to the last 5-6 questions that you posted up on this forum (overheating, speakers etc.)
Not sure I'll waste my time with the lengthy answer this post would require.

Many shops will perform a free inspection of your vehicle. 30 point, 100 point, whatever. They do this hoping that you will pay them to fix one or more of the issues they find.

Have you maintained any of the systems that you are having issues with?

We are not affiliated with GM in any way, and are not paid for our time here. (Timely) updating of your threads would go a long way toward helping us help you .

Replacement shocks or struts 10 Chevrolet hhr LS

Hello, I got a figure yesterday from Conrad's tire to replace front and rear shocks and struts and springs and links for over $1200?! The springs don't need replaced do they? I'm not a mechanic so I don't know much about car repairs. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

The easiest and least labor intense way to do struts is to use "complete" struts. They are incredibly easy to install, most people with a basic tool kit can do them in a driveway in an hour or so.

The rear springs are easy to replace and fairly cheap, they don't routinely get replaced.

I would suggest a thorough examination of the Lower Control Arm bushings. Car in park vigorously try to roll each front tire, if the body does not follow the wheel they are bad.

From Rockauto the Monroe complete struts are about $80 each + about 1.2 hours labor each.
Rear shock are about $25 each + 15 minutes labor each.
Sway bar end links are about $25 pair + 30 minutes labor.

All basic tool kit in the driveway semi-handy person.

He's in northern Ohio, land of salted roads... A lot of those bolts are not going to come out without air tools.

The quoted price sounds a little high though, but it could be more costly there than where I am. I'd get a few other quotes...

This is his quote
"I'm not a mechanic"
Some people don't know how to punch their way out of a paper bag when it comes to car repairs.
That's why I made money repairing cars, trucks, lawn equipment and other things that were/are mechanical.
Don't beat the guy down.

Where is a "beat down"? I'm not a mechanic either.

If somebody knows enough to own a basic tool kit they can unbolt parts. If they don't own a tool kit chances are they can't.

Sounded like encouragement to me.

Not only that BUT there are videos and written instructions that details every step of any assembly process that can be done with HHR's.
I used them to put an SS rear beam under my 2LT, change rear shocks, fix door handle, repair butyl patch and the list goes on.
So if you can follow instructions you can work on the trucklets.
Get er done
