Replacing radiator core support

My core support in my SS was damaged in a wreck and was pushed in. When I look at it and try to figure out my next plan, the whole thing is welded in. I've looked on eBay and parts websites and they sell the arch shaped support. Has anyone ever messe with this replacing or repairing? Also, the air bag sensor is right behind, will I be ok with disconnecting the negative cable then unplugging the sensor and plugging back in before I reconnect the cable? I don't want bags to deploy! Thanks for any help.

Got a picture of how bad the damaged core support is ?

I had a Mazda B2200 pickup about 20 years ago. My dad backed into my truck with his van. Bent the core support in a couple inches. I thought I was going to have to replace it.
After calming down(and not yelling at Dad. ) I realized it wasn't as bad as it looked.
After removing a few "in the way" parts. I put a 2x4 flat up against the firewall. Took the truck jack and another 2x4 and pushed the core support back into position.
Almost like new. Just a couple wrinkles in the metal, and 2 spots where the paint flaked off.

The hood and grill had to be replaced.

The sensor will be safe after 15 minutes disconnected.

Yeah the car kinda went under a suburban bumper so the hit was coming up at it which pushed my hood latch into condenser and rolled under the part right where the hood latch is bolted to. I will get a pick up this afternoon. I'm gonna try some redneck ingenuity first also.
Can the plug be unplugged without disconnecting the battery?

Legally no, but yes. You will have to to do the airbags anyway. The sensor is a one shot item, it must be replaced.

I am assuming that if it got that hard a hit you had a deployment? That means a couple of one shot parts to replace. At least the insurance co. will include them on an estimate.

I would have thought so too. On it's carfax the car had a similar wreck about 3 years ago and all the damages were repaired, including an airbag deployment. Says all the repairs were fixed and and put back into normal operational mode them checke out by the dealer so I'm assuming all was good. Then the person I got it from had a similar accident with no deployment. Either sensor is messed up or being pushed down and not in wasn't enough to set off the bags. No insurance involvement on these pending repairs.

Thinking it may pull out enough to allow the hood to shut

I have fixed worse than that with a come-along and a tree. I was going to say fence post, then remembered the new fence post I had to install.

Haha yeah that's probably what's gonna happen. Just didn't like the thought of that sensor ejecting my bags and screw me over. It's directly behind the dent.

Take the battery out of the circuit, wait 15 minutes. Airbag system is dead.
