Required Engine Oil for 2011 GM Vehicles
Based on pricing that GM just sent out today it should sell from $4.75 - $4.90 per quart, but dealers are different everywhere so I can't say that's the pricing everywhere. When GM releases this in bulk (Oct/Nov '10) the price will drop, and once again individual dealers may or may not adjust the pricing.

Yeah.... I donno.
Anyways, Wally World does have Pennzoil Platinum on sale in the 5 Quart size for $20.50. I picked some up today (rarely shop there otherwise) and will give this stuff a shot, seeing as it meets and exceeds this new GM spec for synthetic oil...... Always used Pennzoil in the past for my older cars so I feel confident they will continue with a good product.
My first try at a non-dino oil

I bought a 5qt jug of the Platinum at Wal-Mart yesterday since it was on sale like you said. The pennzoil ultra is still to pricey for me...
On a side note whats with the 15W50 Mobil1 is that stuff any good? I might try running this oil in the SS...

locally, i can find 5qt bottles of mobil 1 5w-30 for $21. i have no problems buying synthetic oil. i consider this pretty reasonable. it remains to be seen whether dexos licensing fees will raise the retail costs.
i do have issues with licensing fees. if GM cannot make a profit without getting into the oil business, i will be buying fords from now on.
