Doing little minor paintwork/rust removal.on the "07 today. Had to remove the driver's side factory stuck-on transparent vinyl chip shield that is on the LR door back edge. No matter what I try, I cannot remove the glue residue so that I can move forward with the work. What am I missing?
WD-40 is a "nope". VERY slow going; Best results from soaking it with wax/oil remover snd scraping with the edge of a credit card or thumbnail. I see hours and hours of work ahead.
The local Chevy dealer has not responded. .
Where can I get a new chip guard after this repair work.is done ?
See if you can find a 2007 LS in a junkyard for the nice plastic ones, they stick on with double sided tape. Or walk int the parts department and ask for the film type. Or search the part numbers on ebay.
Well, I followed your advice. Went out today to a local junkyard and after yeoman duty from a great friend (he actually did the work after my old tired back went out) was able to procure a set of the plastic "07 LS chip guards. They are white, but that is no problem, and $20/pair was fair. Now I have to remove the tape residue from the backs ( I bought one of those eraser wheels from Finishmaster), scuff, prime, paint, install new 2s tape and install. Looking forward to this project being OVER.
Took care of some minor rust in the door bottoms, too. Wire brushed, sanded, covered with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, and painted. Sprayed R.E. into the door bottoms and hatch bottom as well, from the access holes. With the addition of mud flaps, I hope this keeps Demon Rust at bay for awhile.
Sure am liking this little car. So far, I have spent over 50% of the original purchase price on upgrades and new suspension parts, and I still like the car. It drives and looks MUCH better than the day I bought it and I like driving it. My wife's car, which represents almost ten times the total investment I have in my HHR, actually is not getting used much. This will change when the Arctic season arrives and we are ass-deep in snow; her Subaru has AWD.
