Testing ...Testing... High Temp Coating

Well,

As I have metioned lately I just added a second HHR to the fleet.
2011 .. 2LT.. Black Granite .. Gray interior .. 11,400 miles.

While working on all the usual little fix up details I decided not only Paint the rear Resonator Flat Black as I did my 2011 1LT earlier, but to try a different paint this time.

On the 1LT I used VHT 900 degree High Temp flat black.
It started burning off within a few weeks. Kinda surprised me.

This time I am using VHT Flame Proof 1300-2000 degree Header Paint.
A Silica-Ceramic coating in Flat Black.

Wiped down everything with Acetone till the towel showed clean.
Picked a 75 degree nice day to apply 2 lite coats and the 1 medium wet coat.

Start car and let idle 10 minutes... shut off 20 minutes then repeat, followed by a 30 minute drive and then let cool down.

Looks nice but we will see how this application works out.

Fingers Crossed.....

Sorry ...not a premium member.

Just looks like a Flat Black Paint Job but really helps the Black HHR from having that Cheap unfinished metal look and amplifies the Chrome exhaust Tip.

Silverfox. You don't have to be a premium member to post pictures.
Really would like to see some pics. I always like to admire other folks hard work.

I tried to post some pic's a while back on my Hood Fit thread but could not. Was told you have to be a Pemium member ...

Walk me thru it on a post back so I can follow the correct steps and I'll give it a try.

Actually the Paint I used is not much more expensive then the BBQ paint.

Aside from that,

Krylon BBQ paint is rated for 1200 degress intermittently, 600 degrees continuous.

The first paint I used was VHT Caliper High temp paint rated at 900 degrees
continuous.

The paint I just used VHT Flame Proof Header Paint is rated at 2000 degrees intermittent and 1200 continuous.

I am hoping this lasts a long time.

The 2.4L at wide open throttle seems to blow the 900 degee paint away pretty quickly.

If you are NOT a premium member, you cannot attach directly to your post. You must find a hosting source such as Photobucket and use the imaging code to attach to your post. I think there is a sticky on the procedure and ChevyMgr, I think, has a link to a how to in his signature

Looks like it's on the gallery ....

The actual color shows darker then the picture. When I stand back and look at it I can barely tell it's there. Shows Gray in the pic but it is darker .. more to an Ebony.
