I'm buying a new battery

Hi folks, well the old HHR is turning 5 years old soon, so I'm going to be replacing the battery. After much searching, I'm going to bring it to the dealer. Their price is 100 bucks for the OEM battery plus 20 bucks to put it in. I have a 10 dollar off coupon, so the total should be $110.00. I have changed batteries before myself on other cars, but this vent deal sounds like alot of hassle, so I'll just bite the bullet and let them do it. I bring the car in on June 23rd. If any of you have another suggestion, I'm open to it. By the way, don't trust some of the web quotes on batteries for the HHR. They quote you a battery that will fit (one that's not designed to be vented) with standard installation. The web quote is always way too low!

After nearly a month of searching, and two jumps required, I finally decided that the dealer "deal" was in fact the best choice as well. I even had the car at Sears (to save $10) but then when they saw the trunk mount they said it was the wrong model and the price went up over $85 for the correct one! No thanks. Going dealer seems the best way right now.

(My replacement was on a Saturn Ion but it's the same issue & platform)

After charging the battery 3 times in the last 6 months I decided to change it out yesterday. I purchased the battery from Auto Zone and it took about 20 min. from start to finish.

Our 2006 HHR (bought in 2005), has the original battery. No problems.

Hey, I'm the original poster of this thread and I'll give an update....

Parked the HHR in the garage on May 19th and left for vacation, using an alternate vehicle, the next morning. Returned on June 14th but didn't start it until the 16th. Started without a groan or hesitation. But at 5 1/2 years on the OEM Delco, I may be pushing the edge of the envelope......just a touch.

We'll see. I'm waiting for that dreaded day of turning the key and getting no response. But I've already found a replacement battery at WalMart.....who Consumer Reports rate highly.

I replaced mine a couple of months back with the Gold series from Advance. Took them maybe 20 minutes to install and even though the kid had never done one an an HHR, he didn't have any problems, vent tube an all.

Mine never died on me, but I had one "sluggish" start after a few days sitting and didn't want that no start morning heading to work.... It was 5 years old and figured it was time.

You must have bought yours right around the same time we bought ours. November '05. Beginning to get a little concerned about ours also.

I've got 4 amps in the back on the stock delco battery. It's a champ to say the least.
