turn signal switch replacement

I searched for an answer to this but didnt see anything but I apologize if I missed it. My 07 turn signal cancel hasnt worked since I bought the car in June. I ordered a replacement switch off ebay and when I installed it I could not quite get the clips to click into place and it did not cancel like its supposed to. Does the steering wheel have to be in a certain position for the switch to click into place?

Thank you in advance for any help

All the book says is "take it out, put the new one back in, ensure the locking tabs are snapped into place"

Ok thanks Don. I suspect its the $18 Chinese part that is the problem. Going to get a refund and buy an oem part.

I would suspect a wire out of place or a burr on the plastic.

Same thing with me when I bought outside door handles (Junk). Returned them and contacted hellshotrod on this forum for good used OEM parts. Might be the way to go.

Thanks everyone for your help. I may try the fix on the existing switch. Special thanks to Dave who has been really helpful. I notice that on the new switch the little white plastic tab that acts as the trigger barely sticks out at all. How much is it supposrd to stick out?
