Walmart will change your oil for 14.99 while you shop or get a blimpie. My WalMart has a blimpie in it.

True dat, but... I actually *enjoy* doing routine maintenance myself. I likes knowing what is being put into (oil) and onto (filter) my car

Well, looks like they changed things a little on the 2010. I haven't been able to find a 1 1/4" socket shallow enough to get it on the top of the cap let alone a 1/2" drive wrench, the manifold on the 2.2 liter is in the way.

Only way I can see to do it is to use a 1 1/4" box wrench. I see GM says not to use an open end wrench, I assume this so the force required to get it off is spread equally over the entire area but, geez, nice job GM for designing the manifold so you can't even use the tool that you suggest to remove the oil filter!

Actually a 32mm special socket is what's needed. And most Auto-Parts stores have them..Ask them if you can go out & try it on your car.. No Biggie..

No GM does not want you to use a open-end wrench on a PLASTIC cap.. You'll bugger it up..

As to the vacuum oil thingies,, Fine if you like leaving the crap on the bottom of the oil-pan..

I prefer to drain it heated up, & thoroughly ............

Try your local auto part store for a Lisle Oil Filter Socket, Part # 14700. Made for all Ecotec engines.

It's a 32MM socket, at least on my 08. I found a nice 32MM shorty socket at Sears for $8.69 just last weekend. The socket with a 5-inch extension worked great to get mine off. Our sears is a relatively small one, so if they have it most should.

Thanks to all for the info......if my 1 - 1/4" socket was a 1/4" shorter it would work but....at 1 - 3/4" it sits on an angle.

Just an update .....found it on Amazon.com $6.95
