At least the GM OEM springs here were designed specifically for the HHR and are being sold by GM parts.

The thing is, there are many different part numbers for springs that were sold by GM and installed on brand new HHR. 22209800 is another part numbers for GM OEM springs for HHRs.

What I wanted, is get all the OEM part numbers. I don't mind if it's FE1 springs or FE3 or any part number as long as it came installed on HHR out of the factory. This is what I consider original. And I want to buy these. They are discontinued, which doesn't mean they don't exist brand new anymore.

 

Are you sure about that? Might they be an off the shelf spec?
Most parts used to build cars come from a salesman for a company that makes things. A company that makes springs goes to GM and shows them the widgets they make and GM chooses the one they want. Sometimes if there is no off the shelf part that satisfies they will put out a request for bids based on specs, but that can be expensive. GM is pretty famous for counting beans.

Or, the design/engineering department sends a spec to the purchasing department then a guy looks in the catalogs that line the walls in his office and picks a vendor and product.
By "off the shelf" I mean a widget that the factory is set up to produce with very little or no modification to capital equipment; maybe just setting a dial.

At least that's how the Marketing prof explained it in 1970.

I would call Customer Service at RockAuto. State your situation and ask if they can help locate what you need.

When I had my 2006 HHR LT, I wanted the FE5 (SS) suspension, which was very hard to locate because the SS was just recently introduced. The customer service rep searched while I was on line with him and finally said the parts were not available yet. I was disappointed. But 2 days later the CS rep. called me back and said he located them and that I would receive 2 separate shipments. Several days later I received them and took everything to my installer (didn't have a spring compressor). Next day I had my HHr with almost full SS suspension. Took it in for an SS wheel alignment and I was done.
Kind of a long story....but the point is CALL RockAuto and see if they can help.

 

I would advise everyone to stay away from anything made by Detroit Spring. I bought a set of front struts online and they were rattling junk. I got replacements right away and they were junk, too. I will buy locally from one of the good parts suppliers from now on for anything suspension related. That way if I get junk AGAIN I can deal with a real person and get something else. No more online shocks for me!

 

Anyone has experience with Cobalt OEM front springs ? Are they equivalent/same as the HHR OEM ?

 

Not equivalent, the HHR is heavier.
