Paint the Rear of the Muffler .. Anybody ??

One thing I hate is a vehicle with all the undercarriage and exhaust parts Etc Etc sticking down in Plain View.
Seems like the foriegn car mfgs. started the trend and now most everybody buidling cars is ignoring the issue and showing all the junk.

I think the HHR would look better if the Muffler was cleaned and painted with a High Temp Flat Black Paint. At least paint the rear portion that obviously shows like a sore thumb.

Prep and Paint choice is a key issue to get a good long lasting job.

Any thoughts ???

Been done by many....just as you prescribe. Started just about the time the HHR was introduced, about 5 years ago.

I used BBQ paint, very little prep and painted as much as I could. Works great, looks better and needs a couple touch ups a year.

I was going to pick up another can of BBQ paint this year and flat black engine paint was actually cheaper...... Paint it!

I think I will do a little reasearch on the numerous High Heat paints available here to see if any have the advantage.
Normally I would slightly scuff the surface with a fine grade 3M Scotch Brite pad but in this case I do not want to interfere/violate the metal finish on the Muffler.

Clean with Acetone, let dry and then wash with biodegradable industrial cleaner to remove residue left by acetone wiping. Dob water left lightly with clean paper towel and then hit area with the hair dryer.
Mask off and shoot 2 light coats. Let completely dry.
