A minor problem I have with cleaning with any solvent is that they leave a film behind.

Try it on your HHR front side window by wiping the solvent on the clean clear glass with a clean rag and let it dry.

Do it on a sunny day and with the window facing the sun. Then look at it to see if it is perfectly clear or some residues left behind.

Thats why I finish the job with an industrial water based liquid cleaner and rinse with clear water. I dob lightly with a clean paper towel. If lint is still a problem I use a New small 2" bristle brush to de-lint, then finish dry with a hair dryer.

Surface is then clean and the paint will stick better.

Extra effort ?? ... Yes ... but so is respraying every 6 months.

BBQ paint really only lasts 6 months anyways, regardless of prep. Not that prep isn't important, it's 95% of the job....... Just in this case it may not change the facts.

Satin Black sounds like a better choice then flat as it usually inherently has more durability.
How long does it last between coatings ??

What does VHT stand for and did you buy it at a specialty automotive store ??

re

greybeard is correct - really no matter what you use they need to be touched up every few months to be kept fresh looking - they take a lot of abuse under there - also dupont #3812 reducer as a final wipe will remove any film left over by wax and grease remover or sanding sludge if you used a scothch brite
