Cleaning Engine Compartment

Now that winter is finally over here in Ohio (I hope so)...What is the best way to clean the engine compartment? When I bought my HHR the engine compartment was detailed by the dealer. What do you they use or what is the best method to clean it? I read/heard you need to protect the alternator. TIA for the suggestions.

Give this thread a read, and avoid a power washer unless you're 110% sure you know what you are doing, good luck!

I use 50/50 Purple.....rinse, spray on, let sit for 5 min, hose off, done.Spray 100% on the greasy built up areas if you find any.
