fuel door design flaw?

I was really surprised when I went to fuel the 09 for the first time and found there is no inside release, just a push on the door. With gas price$ what they are, I have a fear (founded or unfounded) of losing fuel to the siphon hose. Is there something in the design of the filler neck to prevent one from siphoning gas out of the filler opening?

From what I've read you can't get a siphon hose down into the tank by design. If it keeps you up at night get the locking gas cap Jay mentioned.

Give this thread a read, you'll need one of two different part numbers offered by Stant depending on your model year.....

Yeah-be careful of the locking cap. Stant did not fit my 09ls flexi. I ended up with a different brand because the stant is too high & the door will not close, and you cant adjust the filler neck either-I tried. I will look for the cap info on the one I ended up with.

Good point Sir Knight, I'd forgotten the filler neck on the "Flex" HHR's is longer. Nice catch!

Found this from my other post about the cap. Auto Zone had it & even let me try it first.

The Stant Cap is too High (part #10511 (in black) or the #10511Y (in flexfuel yellow). Get the 5903 for 08 or older HHRs, get the 5904 (yellow) for 09 and newer. Just got it from Auto Zone (CST Brand I think?). Fits perfect. Just follow the instructions on how to LOCK. You must use the key, unlike Stant that just clicks and locks. I tried the Stant myself-too high.

I believe the OP isn't happy with the fuel door's ummm...."open door policy", but if someone wants to steal gasoline from your vehicle, they'll get a fuel door with an inside release open. Locking gas caps help, but last year we had problems in Charlotte with people crawling under vehicles and drilling into the gas tank to steal the fuel, if a bad guy wants something badly enough...they'll get it.
