I’m thinking you can separate the grounds

:-) Yeah, I know. I don't need them by any means, I just like to have the extra lighting in the rear when I'm working (and often parked to the side of the road with hazards on).

Probably from the bulb side, yes, but not from the socket side, unless there is a ground-separate socket (two grounds) somewhere that I haven't seen. But I'm not entirely sure that separating the grounds would work since, well, the entire vehicle is ground. I need to create a new + path away from the signal circuit since the OE 3057CK bulbs share a positive on the brake/turn filament. The running filament is it's own positive lead.

only issue there would be if your turn signal is on your backup lights wouldn't work on 1 side but how often do you use turn signals backing up lol

I gave you a very simple way to get the lights to work the way you want
yet i guess you did not see it or don't understand its simplicity
no relays just 2 wires run from the front of hhr to the rear

You did, yes. I'm just not going to drag wires from the BCM to do it (which is a little easier from actually tapping the front signals themselves). Wire routing is always a consideration, especially in unibody cars.

You can install a normally closed relay and put it inbetween the new LED and the factory bulb voltage line for the blinker/brake. Then connect the trigger voltage of the relay to the third brake light.

So basically the outcome would be:

Blinker on: amber and top red blinker on. Depress the brakes and amber blinker goes off and the top red brake light is the only one that continues to operate as normal.

Put in reverse white light comes on, depressing the brake removes the pass through voltage, so the white light stays on.

So basically everything you asked for utilizing only one extra wire ran from the third brake light. The only down side is that the ambers would be off when the brakes are depressed.
