Ok, look at this pic, noticing specifically the rear side door.......

concerning the "protector bump" that gets all the rock chips (and mine are as pitted and edward james olmos' face),i'm considering masking it off and shooting a satin black.
it'd be cheaper than getting new ones right(?) and may look cool with the whole "black/silver" theme I seem to be going with...............any input is welcome!

I don't say such things. I believe any question deserves an answer given by a present audience. So many old threads consist of people who aren't around anymore and are unable to respond to new interest in the matter.
The only threads that I consider moot are oil threads and the like. Even those deserve a competent response. It is not the original poster's fault that search is finicky.

On my 300 ZX, they went from the sticky clear plastic for small rocks, to a bed-liner type of material. I think the idea of Orange-Peel bed-liner as pretty cool. and the idea of going a little further with it, is a good one.
Knew a guy in Tallahassee who bought a brand new ford f-150 and then paid someone to cover the entire truck with bed-liner.... murdered out in crinkle paint! pretty odd/cool look. He was a "critter gitter" and spent alot of time having small branches and twigs tearing up his truck, so it was a no-brainer in his opinion and looked odd enough to attract attention for his business.
Another cool thing going on around here is vehicle wraps with embedded LED's. Pretty hot!

as far as going black on the fenders and such, i'd thought about that, but i prefer a sleek look, and am starting to think that even painting the "door scuffs" black would go against that look.....................rats
