Ventshades review

http://www.thepartsbin.com/catalog/?...rand|Ventshade

Im rather confused about the "In-Channel". I would like to not use adhesive on my car thats why I'm looking for a good quality in-channel, but in the description is talks about using 3M adhesive foam tape?

I think that the 3M tape is used to keep the Ventshades in the window channel, otherwise they'd either drop out of place or just plain fall out when you lower the windows.

I have the WeatherTech 82413 set, which are in-channel.

In-channel means they slide into the channel in the door frame that the window glass goes up into. You have to flex them in, they hold themselves in.

Not in-channel affix with tape around the outside of the window, on the paint.

The rear ones I got have tape that goes into the felt in the channel.

While I like having the shades, these WeatherTech ones have been a bit problematic. The first time I put them in, raising the front passenger window cracked out a portion of the edge that goes in the channel... not a big deal.

Because I live in a very dusty (read: constant airborne dirt/sand) area, the particles would get between the glass and the shades and grind scratches into the glass. It's also very hot here, so the adhesive on the Velcro felt I put on them started melting... I'm in the process of replacing that with automotive foam tape and felt ribbon.

Even with these issues, I'd stil recommend the in-channel, as putting anything on your paint long-term is asking for problems later.

Thanks for the clarification Dracos, I wasn't sure they'd stay in the channels without anything like an adhesive tape to keep them in place.

For the front ones, you insert the front edge into the channel (the vertical part along the mirror), then work up the A pillar to the roof. Once there, flex the back end of the shade down to get the lip into the back channel, then slide it up.

The back ones also start at the front. I have the ones that go all the way back over the fixed glass on the rear doors, the rear lip on them slides under the weatherstripping. There's a molded bump that covers the bar between the glass pieces.

For years I have used the ventshade brand and the style that goes on the paint.
When I bought my ss the original owner had already installed a set of weathertech in channel
I think they look much better than the exterior stick on ones.
As mentioned above however they can scratch the glass especially in a sandy area.
I installed a set of auto ventshades.(avs ) in channel on my wife's suv recently.
Took less than 10 minutes.
The autoventshades cost about $60.00 per set weathertech. Over$100.
Weathertechs look better more like a factory look.with the
Weathertechs optically you can see trough them a little better.
Are they worth the extra money? That's up to the individual buying them.
The trick with the double sided tape is to Peel back a couple inches on each end stick in channel pull tape out roll up windows for 24 hours.
Weathertechs are made in Germany if anyone is counting.

Well then scratch my original question, and tell me which company has the most reliability. (disregard price)

I've always gone inchannel, cause they don't come off. I heard stories of the outters coming off on the highway. Check E Bay, that's where I got mine. The company is from California. Can't remember there name. Really good price.
