2008 HHR Shifter Change

Just wanted to let everyone know my experience. Bought a 2010 gearshift assembly from eBay from a totaled HHR with only 11k miles to replace my 2008's. My shifter red gear indicator has been stuck on reverse since the day I bought it, and the plastic roll "stuff" is annoying in colder weather. Loving the leather boot, and storage bin to the side, perfect for my iPhone or mace to keep handy.

Ran into a few hiccups, but nothing major. When removing I couldn't reach the connector for the lights on the gearshift. So I ended up cutting the wires on my old shifter. Makes life a lot easier!
Second when removing the linkage from the shifter, I was afraid to pull off the cable afraid I would ruin it. Don't worry. The grommet is on tight. Give it a nice tug!
Third, when installing the nuts back on the studs, It is a pain in the butt. Helps to remove the plastic trim around the bottom near the fuse panel. Then you will have small access areas near the studs so you can hold them tight with pliers and tighten them. Don't be afraid. It's so much better than the old style shifter. So easy a 17 year old can do it!

Finally found a new style shifter for cheap from a local wrecking yard. Hopefully will get it installed soon. Hope it goes smooth!
