Folk, I need your help.

The parts man quoted a $300 number for the cover. I know that is wrong. I need the parts numbers to add these buttons to my 08LS. And no, he is not just putting me off, he really wants to help.

First, has anyone done an 08 yet?

Second, did the 06/07 covers come in 3 (or more) different colors?

Third, does anyone have the parts numbers?

Lastly, the salesman and I walked the lot and found that the covers come in several colors apparently to match the interior colors. My car has the tan interior. Thanks in advance, John McP

 

Sounds like he was quoting you the price of the airbag part.

Yes, I have read all 40+ pages and it does not answer the question. Each year of the HHR has different shape buttons and cover colors for these parts so the part numbers are specific to the year model and color of the interior. It may also be possible that Chev has finally outsmarted us and made this impossible. Hence, the questions I posted.

I need to find someone, anyone, who has added the buttons to an 08 and hopefully with a tan interior.

 

Pics from the thread linked from that one show what appears to be the same as the '07 on an '08. Not sure about the cover colors, all the ones I've seen have been the dark grey color, but silver ones have been seen on black interiors.

When you talked to your dealer, did he put you VIN in the computer?? He can get the color code for the cover that way. Then you use that color code to get the correct cover withe the button holes. The switch is easy, but it is the harness that is really tripping him up. GM does not list the harness as coming separate in the steering wheel picture. It says you have to buy a new wheel. Have your parts guy look under the cruise control system for the harness. It is listed there as available on it's own (at least that is how the '07 is).

 

The problem is that since this option is apparently not available on an LS the VIN does not help. I need the VIN of a car with the buttons and with the tan interior. The wiring was no problem nor were the buttons. It is the cover that is the problem.

So is there anyone out there with an 08 with the tan interior and radio buttons on the steering wheel. I need to use your VIN number to get these parts. Be aware that the VIN is visible through the windshield so there is no privacy problem. I intend to haunt the car lots looking for this color combo.

When you order a part GM wants your Vin# and if it didnt come with it they go stupid.

There are several ways to ubtain a VIN with the option you want.
1.) Go to the dealer and look on the lot. copy vin# from the invoice.
2.) Internet
.....a. Chevy.com and choose thier find a vehicle tab. All options listed.
.....b. Ebay Motors..Good site becasue all vins are listed plus interrior pictures.
.....c. Autotrader.com and cars.com some have pictures.
3.) Ask here :)

Keep in mind when you search look for the highest priced vehicels. These will have the most options. Also when you find one, Keep that vin for future add-on purchases.

Pretzel, your a real brain. Thanks, I will try to see the dealer today and order the parts. I had tried the dealer lot but no luck due to the lack of the cashmere interior. Thanks, John McP

You can do what I did. When you call the dealer, tell them you don't have the VIN for what you are looking for, just for the one you have. Use your VIN to get the correct part number for the left side, which will tell you the color and color code. You then use that color to get the right cover in the correct color.

 

Tried that Kawtipping, dealer could not find a match. When he did find a cover (nickel finish whatever that is) Chevy tells us that there are none in stock and no date for when there will be some in stock. I admit that I think I have a parts man who isn"t really with it but thats what I have to deal with. He did find the buttons and wiring harness so I really don't know the problem.

I even had a VIN for a car with the buttons in a cashmere interior but the parts guy tells me the VINS for the 08s are not in the system yet.
