Interior Lighting Issue

I have a 2007 HHR and when I get into my ride in the morning to go to work it is still dark out and when I turn on the lights. All the lights on my center council where my radio is goes out after about 5 seconds, so when I'm driving I can't see any of my control knobs or buttons. Also there are no lights on the shifter area. Anyone have an idea if there is a setting issue or what might be happening.

Not to sound dumb, but have you checked the interior dimmer light switch? It's the thumpwheel knob, center console, top left.
It may be turned down to the off side.

I tried that and the switch is all the way over to the right just before turning on the mirror lights.

Just guessing here. It could be that switch itself is bad. Or the wiring to the back of the switch is not making good contact.(the mirror lights are on a seperate feed on that switch)
Or your could check the fuses. Wouldn't hurt. #27 Interior fuse box
#62 Engine Bay fuse box. Might be another, not sure.

I will check those fuses. Here is a thought, could I unhook the + battery cable and see if maybe it resets the computer componets that my possible control those area's.

worth a shot. not sure if that will do anything bad to the computer though.

and what are mirror lights?

you mean the visor mirrors?

and wouldn't putting the round switch thing all the way to the right make all the interior lights go on?

try calling a local chevy dealership, asking them. they might try to sell you a replacement part but I bet you can get some info out of them in the process.

Thanks for your comeback, I finally figured it out. It was a 10amp fuse, replaced the fuse and all is good.
