I used two small screwdrivers. One on each side of each needle. But be very careful they are easy to brake.

yeah I have seen the how to but it does not show how to take the needles off, it just says to do it, and I am not going to buy the faces just for the tool. thanks anyway..

I just popped mine off with my fingers. You have to be very careful and give a bit of a tug. I was worried about it because they are REALLY on there. I just took my nails of my index and thumb and placed them in between the needle and guage plate and pulled. Make sure you tug at the base of the needle though. I snapped the needle part off the base on one but luckily a little super glue took care of that. When re adjusting the needles when you are done it helps to just slide the needles on the post just a bit. NOT ALL THE WAY TO WHERE THEY SNAP IN PLACE!!! This will make it easier on you when and if you need to readjust them. Hope this helps man!

I've used certain styles of wire cutters as a dual prybar for these types of things. Just don't squeez them and nick the pin, or cut it for that matter. You can get even pressure on both sides of the needle as close to the pin as possible so the needle won't bend either. Almost a tiny gear puller.

If all you want is to safely remove the needles you dont need a special tool..... a simple safe way to remove your needles is to slide the tines of a regualr dinner fork under the needles then gently press down on the handle of the fork. This will leverage the needles straight off the pins without any damage.

Its actually a tip that I got from a manufactured of gauge faces when I was working on my Suburban......
