Refer to the stickies in the How-To section. There is one there about painting the window switch area and one about removing the stock radio. The two combined will tell you how to remove the parts you want to paint.

Just take a flat edge and carefully pry one of the side out. After that just keep pulling. You'll get to a point where you have to disconnect all the switches and then you'll have it off!

It's real easy once you get it started.

Primer or adhesion promotor first, paint, then hardner/sealer, allowing drying in between of course.

BTW, you might want to rub down the parts with some alcohol, 0000 steel wool, and a tack cloth before priming to make sure you get any contaminants off the surface. Prep is key and dust in the promoter/primer coat will ruin the whole piece.

  • Clean everything very well like crafty said.
  • One coat adhesion promoter.
  • Let dry until "sticky".
  • 1st coat color, let dry until sticky. (repeat this as often as needed)
  • 1st coat clear, let dry until sticky.
  • 2nd coat clear.

It's important to not let any coat dry completely before applying the next coat. If you do wait until next day for it to completely dry. Depending on heat/humidity, I'd wait no longer than 10 minutes between coats. I used a kitchen timer.

Hope this helps.

Why is it important? Most paint says let dry before reapplying. I am not saying days, but 10 minutes may not be long enough.

If you want it to look good you'll let it dry according to the manufacturers instructions and sand between coats. Applying a new coat of paint to a still tacky coat after like 10 minutes is asking for problems. Most paints tell you how long to wait between coats anyways.

Most rattle-cans have a 10-15 minute "flash". If you let the paint flash, you can immediately apply another light coat. Key is light coats. If you do heavy coats, the paint will run and sag. If you let the paint cure way over the flash period, like an hour or two, then you'll have to prep the surface all over again and wait to paint the next coat.
