replacing metal trim strip on interior door

I've got a 2010 SS and want to update/replace/whatever the horizontal metal strip on the driver and passenger door interior. I understand that this was originally installed at the factory by melting posts into the plastic door panel. I don't want to take off this panel and unmelt the metal strip. My specific question is does anyone have a solution such as painting, applying a brushed silver material overlay, etc. to this to make it look new again? Thanks in advance!

Since I first posted this message, I found a product that may work for those who wish to make that strip look new without removing the door panel or looking for a junker door panel. Here is a product that might do the trick (silver brushed aluminum vinyl wrap):

Scuff , masking tape, paper and spray paint, for plastic. Those strips are plastic.
