New England Hiking & Fire Towers - PIX!!
New England Hiking & Fire Towers - PIX!!
OK, I put 32K on the SS since last June and went all over the place.
Problem is that I was so busy driving I didn't stop to do stuff.
Flashback 12-15 years.....
Hiked so much I climbed Mount Washington in NH without too much fatigue.
Rode my mountain bike (knobby tires) from Marlboro Mass to Moultonborough NH (132 miles) overnight.
Nothing 14 hours of sleep couldn't fix. Next day...no fatigue.
Flashback to the present....Awesome TV, wornout couch, long winter... +30 lbs.
Gotta hike some hills & mountains! Get my ass (and everything else) back into shape.
You might have noticed that I like covered bridges.
I also like waterfalls and hiking mountains, especially with fire towers at the summit.
Here's one in Milford, NH.
Only 200 ft elevation change over .4 miles so no steep brutal climb to this gem.
That lump on the trail is my dog

The shack could use some shingles

There was smoke at the horizon near Salem NH

Yup. Needs shingles!

Carmel hates lightning, fireworks and of course guns.
Someone was plinking in the distance and the machine gun really got her attention.

Post your fire tower hikes and tell us what we're looking at.

I've only seen a couple fire towers in my life. Not sure if any of them are used anymore or if they're museums or abandoned or what. I've only seen a couple in northern Michigan before...
Great pictures!
Great pictures!
Thanks, I think the attentive dog pic is the best I have of her.
Here's a cool link I just found http://www.hikenewengland.com/Articl...ers071128.html
I'm sure if you Google for a few minutes You'll find some in your area.
Probably closer than you'd imagine.
Here's the tower I hiked to on Wednesday http://www.hikenewengland.com/RedHill080405.html
I knew I was in for a bruiser and didn't bring a pack so no camera that time.
I'm still recuperating from that one but working through it slowly.

Red Hill in Moultonboro NH a few weeks ago with my camera phone.
elevation gain = 1380 ft in 1.75 miles - too early in the season = ouch

We hiked Mt. Pisgah in Northboro Mass today about 5 miles from my house
No fire tower but a view to Boston on a clear day.

I don't base jump.
You might be thinking of that Friday the 13th thread.
Everyone's so paranoid about a date on the calender so I injected some irony.

Went BASE jumping and sidecar racing earlier after frying bacon and eggs for breakfast nude.
Thought I'd do some underwater welding after I finish my raw pufferfish & Absinthe dinner.
Of course I'll wait 1/2 hour after eating before getting into the shark tank to do the welding.
Wouldn't want to get a cramp.
I'll talk to my wife about inviting my girlfriend in for sex before sleeping tonight.

Here's Mt. Chocorua (3,490 feet) near Conway NH last year on a covered bridge tour.
This year I want to take a picture of this pond from the summit.

Hiked across some hills from Redemption Rock in Princeton, Mass to Crow Hills in Leominster State Forest today.
It's about 4.5 miles round trip. Elevation gain 1,070 ft (cumulative)
It's a small part of the 92 mile Midstate Trail.
And so unlike me, I snapped a few pix.
Dog on a glacial erratic (otherwise known as a boulder in the middle of nowhere).

Dog on rock in front of the backside of Crow Hill

Another angle. Wife's friend says she looks like a robot dog
It's my new desktop wallpaper.

Looking down the path I just climbed to get to the top of the cliffs behind the rock my dog was on

View of Mount Wachusett
Edit - on topic content - can you see the fire tower on MW?

Some flowers in front of the view of Crow Hill Pond and Crocker Pond

Double-knee Carhartts, flannel-lined Carhartt shirt over my t-shirt, Bruins ballcap, heavy boots.
65-70° - Totally soaked with sweat by the time I was half done.
Next time - shorts, t-shirt, boots, DEET
My feet were beat by the time I got back to my

ibuprofin - you thought I was going to say car
