Hey Jeff.....

IF I remember correctly, you are not far from THE LAKE. Just curious, which way is it from your car? It appears the wind and storm was coming from the front of your H. Is that where the lake is?

Last year was the first time in a while that all the freaking out (as mityqwik described quite well) was actually worth it. I doubt we'll have anything this year as the weather has been too warm... I certainly wouldn't mind an early Spring.

Christmas Eve 2009 I remember landing in Louisville, KY and it started to snow -- my first time to see it and it seemed so pretty. Christmas morning we drove out to the in-law's in Whitesville--it was clear and dry, but we hit some black ice and skid.

I decided at that moment that there was NFW I ever wanted to learn how to drive in the snow.

It took me a few times to figure out that driving on snow and ice is a bit like driving on a dirt track with a late model stock car, control the slides and learn to "catch" it at the right moment. That being said, snow and ice are much more unpredictable than any dirt track I've ever raced on, black ice is just pure evil.

nature is gradually losing his mind.
In the U.S. - snow, Europe sank into drifts up to his eyebrows, even north of India has received his share of snow (heat-loving Hindus really stunned).
In Ekaterinburg - the warmest winter I can remember. This is the first winter that I spend without the winter boots, basketball shoes only. Temperature not lower than - 22C (-7.6 °F), and then - only at night. Day of - 3C (26.6 °F) to - 7C (19.4 °F), it is very warm for our area. Normal weather Ekaterinburg - you have such weather in northern Alaska.
And very little snow. My wife loves to ski, but now the forest tracks are not good enough. From time to time skiing engage of roots or stones. Sadness.
Hopefully the weather will return to the usual indicators, have at least the correct summer.

PS By the way, yesterday finally got cold down to - 16C (3.2 °F) and snowing. It seems that life is getting better (if only to touch wood).

Looks like you got hit pretty good there.

So far this year (Knock on wood) it has been pretty mild 40's for Christmas.

We just got hit with our first low temps, been in the Teens for a few days and we got about 6 inches of snow. Temps are rising again and we should get some rain to melt it away and hopefully wash that friggin salt those Morons use on the roads.

Much better than last year so far, snow wise. This was last year here.

Rain in the winter? It's a nightmare, if a negative temperature. The ice on the roads, the ice on power lines. Last year, Moscow had this horror. The city was plunged into hell, the Apocalypse on the streets, fallen trees, electric loss due to breakage of wires. Pampered Muscovites struggled in hysterics.

Now noon in Ekaterinburg. Here's the view from my window. You can see - no thicker than snow 7 inches. Usually - 20 inches thick, packed snow.

A little less than half a mile North of me. My car is pointing due East. Well, the camera is pointing due West.
