What would you call us? We have lived in the land of point & shoots until buying this camera. Yeah, there are alot of options to use to the camera but you still always have the choice of using auto mode until you grow more comfortable playing around with all those added features. We have found the software to be just as useful as the camera Live and learn Oh, and ask lots of questions

Don't know how close you are to Sindydix but she also just purchased this same camera. Maybe she could help you out a little.

i think this camera would be a good one for you (or any novice) , you can use auto mode until you get the hang out where the controls are and what you need to set it up on. if your scared that bad, get the nikon d40. you can still get great images from that camera. and its very affordable compared to all other nikons. but the d5000, d90 are both cameras too for people just looking for a sharper image and a little more camera. When you step into the d300, d3 , etc.. thats when things get real pricey and little more technical.

Eric- lemme know how you like that d5000? I havent heard much on it yet. i still wanna get me a d200/300 pretty soon, just gotta finish my truck , then ill save for that.

Yeah, the D5000 is great for beginners who want a little more than the D40. It's still got the features to do it all manually and all that jazz, but it still has auto for the beginners who want to learn still.

With tax, it was $901, and I bought it at Ritz Camera. It came with the camera, and the kit lens (18-55mm). You have to buy a memory card separate, but I already have an extra.

So far I love it! But I'll still need to get to use it a bit more until I can say for sure.
