Old school = anything not modern. No real dates set for what's old school. Hell anything more than a couple of years old is old school to me.

I consider old school anything prior to when cars became so generic looking. I'd say anything from mid 70's and back...but especially the 50's.

I think - to me - old school is the big, rounded look of the cars before the elongation and fins, etc. With the satellite era, the fins and the big '57s came in and those are the ones I call retro. Obviously, this is a personal thing, based on my age. I've been seeing it everywhere - it's even in the Lands End catalog this season, advertising a blazer! "A New take on Old School" LOL. Because I've been seeing it so much, I looked it up in the "slang" dictionary...and Howdy's right, it's applicable to anything, referring to the "old" way... I guess interpretation is everything.

Deb, Good answer! Prior to when cars become so generic and when you knew what the car was by the looks of it. 50's for sure!

Seems like the older crowd doesn't really understand the term so I'll give a proper example. Take a piece of technology like an iPod. It has only been on the market for five years but are on their fifth revision so it is possible to have an old school iPod regardless of the fact that it is only five years old. Old school has nothing to do with an actual point in time, generation, or set date limit. Sure 50's cars are old school but so are 90's cars. It has nothing to do with generic looks or anything. I can pick out modern cars just as easily as I can pick out classics. I don't buy that whole old person they don't build cars like they used to crap. I guess what I'm saying is you have to look at what you are talking about in perspective as to when it was created and how long it has been around. If I'm talking about old school hip hop I definitely am not talking about the 50's seeing as how hip hop has yet to be invented; chances are I would be talking about the 80's or 90's. Old school simply means old or anything that is not 100% modern and new. Then again as pointed out I guess it can be an interpretation thing even if the term is interpreted wrong.

i'm still trying to figure out what this thread is about.... is it 'oldschool' as in Classic Auto, or Black n White Photo..., does it pertain to just the HHR ? or everything in general? I like the HHR for the retro or old school look... but i do enjoy some of the new school features....... but life in general, i gotta have all my new school gadgets

It is about the car and the look. The way one mods their car. Not about the photo or life. Plain and simple. Although it seems that their is always those who want to make it complicated and argumentative! That was not my intent when I started this thread.

Just because something in ones vocabulary and they use it doesn't make your meaning right. OK so much for that, Now I am wondering why those that voted for new school would like the HHR with its retro styling. I am not trying to start another debate just wondering.
