Not bad, but I notice you're on the shadow side in both pictures and the wheels are the wrong direction in the first.

i agree. on the first photo if you flopped your car the other direction, you could get some sun on it, and then you would be able to cover up the tables, chain link fence, and building, and just have the ice cream shop and your car.

Yeah - I'll go back and do it again. They only had three parking spaces. There wasn't anyone there when I pulled in....but that didn't last long. LOL I also think going earlier in the day, instead of at noon, to take them might help. The train station one, was in the early evening. The sun wasn't in the optimum position.

Congrats on the new Nikon. Still learning with ours as well (D5000). My only advice is to take lots of pics

Very nice! You made a good choice on cameras! I had the Nikon D40x (now the D60), and loved it. (I now have the D5000) The D40 is a great camera for people who don't know what they're doing, and also great for professionals! And the price? You can't beat it! Congratulations! Like Dayton said, just keep taking lots of pictures! That's the best way to learn how and what to do. Enjoy it and good luck!

Thanks guys. It's a big difference coming from a digital point and shoot to the D40. I've signed up for photography classes this fall. Hope to have more fun with it.

If you enjoy photography, you'll love taking classes! That's what I'm majoring in right now, and I love it!!!

I love photography. Just never really took it seriously because of the crappy camera's I could afford. Now that I can afford something nicer and have some free time to do it in....excited about it.

I already have my Christmas list made out for the kids. LOL Zoom lens - wide angle lens and other wish list items.
