I have an older Konica Minolta Z2. Takes good pictures for a 4MP camera, but I really need to get a serious SLR digital for good zoom and action shots at my kid's college soccer games. Just need a way to come up with the $$!

Nikon D300 for serious work
Kodak P880 for nightclub work or when I don't feel like lugging the Nikon
Still looking for a pocket sized point and shoot that I don't hate.

Just picked up our first DSLR camera, a Nikon D5000. Still have our Sony Cybershot and an HP of some kind.

Ooh! Nice! The D5000 looks like a very nice camera, especially for the price! It's very reasonable and you get a lot for the money!!! Now you better be taking pictures like crazy at Cedar Point!!!

I'm a Canon guy. I have a Canon 350xt with a bunch of lenses for my serious work, but I use a Canon G10 for a carry-around camera. This is the Pro-Consumer model, 12+MP with both auto as well as full manual control. Canon offers great optics, usability, and resell value.

MisterMike, you should check out the Canon G10.

the g10 is a nice camera, and if i needed something between the XSI and my small point and shoot, i would go for it, just not small enough for me to carry around all the time.

I recommending upgrading from the XT to the XSI (or the T1i if you can swing it). I have the XT for work, and although nice, it is lacking in so many things now, Just got the XSI about a month ago and love it. Such a nice step up.

This will be our practice run. It's gonna take a little time to get use to all the options available with the camera. It came with an 18mm-55mm and I'm thinking of picking up the 55mm-200mm before we go.

If you spend the money on the 55-200mm, you might want to upgrade and get the one with the Image Stabilizer in it... At the long focal lengths it's hard to keep it steady, and many times the pictures will blur. This can be fixed by using the camera manually sometimes and using a high shutter speed, but I wish I would have paid more for the other one.

Just my advice.
