What Kind of Camera Do You Use?
I own the Nikon D80 .. It is a great camera. I got it as my beginner camera and love it. I like the size of it, the external lcd screen on top to view whats going on with the camera, i like a lot of the features it has.
My step-dad gave me a Olympus 2.1mp a long time ago. It was a great camera until I fell on it & broke it. I did a lot of online research for a cheap camera. I found the Pentax Optio E70 fit the bill quite nicely. 10mp, Auto pic mode, Face rec, AA battery, 3x zoom. The pics are huge! 1st day I accidently drop it on the ground (with the lens out). It didn't miss a beat. Scratched but still works fine. Doh!
I suggest a book called "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson, which explains the relationship triangle of ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed along with exercises to show you why.
Stay away from auto mode! Shoot in P first, then A, S or M and you'll get better results since you're the one deciding and not the camera.
Good luck
Thanks for the tips!
My son has a photographer whiz, he's been helping me with those mode settings too!

Congrats on the Xsi Sindy.

My Fuji S1000 has manual settings, along with P,S and A. It's digital! Take lots of pics and play with the settings. Use the built in light/exposure meter, play with the film speed, shutter speed, and aperture settings if you get bad pics (and you will), delete them! It doesn't cost anything but a bit of time, and you will start getting the hang of it over time. I have had my camera for just over a year, still not a great photographer, but I have some great photos!
